As part of the marriage preparation process in the Diocese of Paterson, every engaged couple is required to complete two Pre-Cana courses. 

The first is a Life Skills course, which explores practical topics such as communication, conflict resolution, family relationships, and financial stewardship. 

The second is God's Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage, a theology-based course that examines the Catholic understanding of the Sacrament of Matrimony, the validity of marriage, Natural Family Planning, and the Church's teaching on married love and sexuality.
